OSHAssociation Organised National OSH Workshop, Focuses on the theme: Managing Work-related Stress and the Well-being of Employees

In a drive to promote occupational safety and health across every sector of the economy and to improve the overall well-being of workers, the Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHAssociation) Nigeria Region organised a one-day workshop themed “Managing Work-related Stress and the Wellbeing of Employees.”

Delegates from various organisations and institutions including the Ministry of Defence, the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), FCT Water Board, Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), Federal Ministry of Environment, NNPc Retail Limited, Office of the Secretary of the Federation (OSGF), National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Nigeria in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) among others gathered at the venue to participate in this important event, eager to gain knowledge and equip themselves with effective strategies for managing work-related stress and enhancing employee well-being.

At the start of the event, Mr Harrison A. Ehimikhaui, MOSHA, the Chief of Staff to the Country’s Regional Administrator, delivered a safety briefing, informing everyone about the safety protocols in place. Following this, Engr. Christian Onyibo, FOSHA, the Chairman of OSHAssociation, Nigeria Region FCT chapter, presented the welcome address. He expressed his gratitude for everyone’s presence and emphasized the importance of fostering a supportive and stress-free work environment.

Mr. Duke Kanayo Okonkwo, AMOSHA, Administrative Secretary of OSHAssociation, Nigeria Region – Abia State chapter, provided an overview of the association, highlighting its mission and objectives in promoting occupational safety and health.

HRH. (Dr.) AMB. Olusegun Aderemi, FOSHA, the Regional President of OSHAssociation Nigeria Region, delivered a keynote speech. He urged participants to recognise the direct link between their health and the success of their organisations.

Special remarks were provided by Tony Cullen, FOSHA, Operations and Planning & Executive Director of OSHAssociation, Engr. Bassey from the OSHAssociation Canada Region, and Dr. Emmanuel Uwalaka, Executive Director for Africa & the Middle East region, shared insights on the significance of addressing work-related stress.

Dr. Comfort Adeosun, FOSHA, Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary Service Welfare Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, delivered a presentation on the event’s theme. She outlined practical approaches for managing stress and promoting employee well-being.

The panel discussion was a highlight of the event, featuring distinguished professionals in the field of occupational safety and health, including Dr. Comfort Adeosun, Engr. Christian Onyibo, Dr. Taiwo Adedoja, FOSHA, CEO of Taiken Security Services Limited, Engr. A.S.Y Kutigi, MOSHA, Chairman of the Nigeria Society of Engineering (NSE), Dr. Ndubuisi Onyema, FOSHA, Managing Director of Kings Swimming Academy, and Dr. Ebere from Abia State, Department of Public Health. They all underscored the importance of addressing work-related stress and its impact on overall health and productivity.

A special segment of the event included the investiture and induction ceremony of new members into the Association. The investiture speech, decoration, and presentation of certificates to the new members were conducted by the Regional President. This important phase signifies the association’s commitment to expanding its membership and influence in promoting occupational safety and health.

The event concluded with Dr. Ndubuisi Onyema delivering the closing remarks. He thanked everyone for their participation and encouraged ongoing collaboration in the field. To commemorate the event, a group photograph was taken among participants.
