OSHAssociation Organised National OSH Workshop; conferred on Many Dignitaries membership investiture and Awards

Based on the need to improve the role of safety in every sector of the economy in order to reduce injuries, fatalities, and deaths in workplaces, the OSHAssociation UK Nigeria Region organised a one-day national OSH workshop and induction for all professionals across the country in Abuja, with the theme: “Practising Injury Prevention at Workplace”.

The workshop focused on the relevance of safety consciousness and best practices, as this practice helps to carry out tasks more productively and efficiently, as well as the well-being of individuals. In addition to that, it is expedient that everyone be equipped with safety knowledge and the right information in safety-related matters, as that reduces fatalities, deaths, and costs. The take-home nugget on this is that “lack of information results in information injury,” as quoted by Dr. Alfred Mboto.

Distinguished guests and attendees include government officials, industry leaders, academicians, and representatives from various organisations. Mr. Samuel Uzoukwu (MOSHA), gave a safety briefing to kick off the session. This is done with the intention of raising everyone’s awareness of safety, following this, messages of goodwill were delivered by Dr. Comfort Adeosun on behalf of OHCSF, Dr. Dalhatu Mohammed Ahmed (FOSHA), Chairman of the Council of Fellows OSHA UK-Nigeria Region, and Ahmed Bolaji Nagode (FOSHA), Director General (NAPTIN), Mahmud Adam Kambari (FCMA, FIICA, FIMI, FOSHA), Permanent Secretary-Service Welfare Office.

The workshop featured a series of presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions, allowing participants to exchange ideas, share best practices, and learn from experts in the field. The panelists during the panel discussion include: Dr. Alfred Mboto (Chairman Cross River State Chapter), Dr. Comfort Adeosun (FOSHA) Director Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (OHSE) Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Air Cdre FO Bassey (FOSHA) Commandant Nigerian Airforce Institute of Safety, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje (FOSHA) Executive Secretary (NBTE) Kaduna, and Prof. Rabiu Magaji (FOSHA) Professor of Human Physiology, ABU, Zaria, Chairman-National Safety Advocacy Project, Team Lead-Sector Skill Council on HSE.

Over 300 participants attended the workshop, including representatives from the Federal Fire Service, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, NOSDRA, NCAA, FAAN,  Federal Police Affairs, among others. It was facilitated by Engr. (Dr.) Emmanuel Uwalaka, the OSHAssociation’s regional administrator, who presented an introduction to the OSHAssociation UK Nigeria Region

There was a presentation of a book titled “Ebube the Safety Boy,” authored by an 8-year-old girl named Zara C. Uwalaka. This was followed by a lecture presented by Prof. Rabiu Magaji, FOSHA. In his presentation, he talked about initiatives for injury prevention and the role of the community in building a safer and healthier workplace with practical demonstrations.

The workshop identified new inductees (members) of different categories into the OSHAssociation. The investiture speech was read by the Regional President HRH, Dr. Amb. Olusegun Aderemi, followed by the decoration and presentation of awards and certificates to all inductees.

At the end of the event, participants expressed gratitude to OSHAssociation for the exposure given to them about safety and accept the responsibility of advocating for safety across the Nation.
