OSHAssociation is Committed to Assisting Nigerian Engineers to Ensure Safety Compliance in the Engineering and Construction Industries: Seeks COREN Support and Partnership

Following the high rate of death, injuries, building collapses, and loss of properties associated with the engineering and construction industries, safety measures and precautions must be implemented and adhered to. The Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHAssociation) has shown its commitment to assisting the engineering and construction industries in combating the above problems by ensuring the implementation of safety compliance in the sector.

OSHAssociation, one of the leading organisations dedicated to promoting occupational safety and health in every sector, has also sought support and partnership with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) Assembly during the 31st annual event for engineering professionals in Nigeria towards achieving zero incidents at work.

During the exhibition, OSHAssociation representatives presented various initiatives aimed at enhancing engineering practitioners’ knowledge and understanding of safety protocols, risk management, and disaster preparedness. These initiatives include specialised training programmes, workshops, and certification courses designed to equip engineers with the skills needed to navigate complex engineering projects while prioritising safety and resilience. This helped participants gain a better understanding of the association’s role and its support for engineering practices that ensure both high-quality work and the safety of those involved.

The main goal of these initiatives was to ensure that engineering practitioners adhered to a strict code of conduct while carrying out their work. OSHAssociation’s presence at the assembly was a crucial opportunity to demonstrate how safety and health considerations can be integrated into engineering projects. This integration is vital to creating durable and sustainable infrastructure while prioritising the well-being of both workers and the environment.

The Regional Administrator of the OSHAssociation Nigeria Region, in the person of Engr. (Dr.) Emmanuel Uwalaka gave a safety briefing during the event, in his briefing he said ‘’ The best way to keep yourself safe is to identify the hazard around you and take appropriate measures and that taking care of your safety is key’’

One of the key takeaways from the event was the importance of being proactive in managing potential risks associated with engineering projects. OSHAssociation highlighted the significance of ongoing professional development and the need for engineers to stay updated with the latest practices and technologies in the field. By adhering to ethical guidelines and maintaining a commitment to safety, engineering practitioners can contribute to the longevity and sustainability of the projects they undertake.

The exhibition by OSHAssociation at the 31st COREN Assembly garnered considerable attention and positive feedback from attendees. Engineering practitioners expressed their appreciation for the association’s efforts in raising awareness about safety practices and promoting adherence to the code of conduct.

As Nigeria continues to face diverse engineering challenges, OSHAssociation’s unwavering commitment to resilient engineering practice serves as a beacon of hope. Through its initiatives and collaborations, the association is actively shaping the future of the engineering profession in Nigeria, ensuring that safety and resilience remain at the core of every engineering endeavourù.
