In a bid to prioritise the safety and well-being of Nigerians, the newly appointed Country Regional Administrator of the OSHAssociation Nigeria Region, Dr. Aliyu Mohammed Ibrahim, has pledged to implement proactive safety awareness campaigns aimed at saving lives across the country through proactive collaboration with stakeholders and professionals. He expressed his commitment for promoting a safety culture and ensuring that Nigerians are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to protect themselves and others from potential hazards and risks they face on daily activities.

Dr. Aliyu Mohammed Ibrahim is a visionary safety leader with a deep commitment to community safety and welfare. He  have also reviewed and solidified  his agenda that will be centered around the three key pillars: People, Process, and Systems. These pillars will be supported by financial stewardship and improved membership focus, which are overarching themes in his strategic plan currently being drafted.

Under the pillar of “People,” the administrator plans to strategically invest in areas such as talent, training, membership, management, and the formulation and implementation of people-centered safety policies. This focus on people will also include safety culture transformation within the organisation.

The second pillar, “Process,” will emphasize adherence to public safety policy regarding collaboration, advocacy, and awareness engagements. This means that he intends to align the activities of the OSHAssociation UK- (Nigeria Region) with relevant public policies to foster effective collaboration, advocate for safety, and engage in awareness campaigns. He as well plans to institute and pursue systems that guarantee efficiency and quality in the outputs of the organisation. One of the strategic focus areas within the systems pillar is the Safety Management System implementation in various private and public organisations.

He promised to integrate safety awareness into the educational curriculum, instilling safety consciousness from a young age. He envisions a future where every Nigerian, regardless of age or background, will be a proactive safety conscious individual and advocate.

In addition to these initiatives, he is spearheading a nationwide campaign to improve emergency response services, ensuring that awareness reaches those in need quickly and efficiently. This holistic approach to safety best practices not only promises to save lives but also to enhance the overall well-being and security of the nation.

He further highlighted that the OSHAssociation Nigeria Region, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, will launch comprehensive safety campaigns aimed at educating Nigerians about potential risks and providing them with practical tools and resources to mitigate those risks. These campaigns will utilize various channels, including social media platforms, workshops, and community engagement programmes, to reach a wide audience and maximise the impact of safety awareness initiatives.

Dr. Aliyu Mohammed Ibrahim also emphasized the importance of partnerships with government agencies, private organisations, and community leaders to ensure the success of these initiatives. He expressed his intention to collaborate closely with relevant ministries, regulatory bodies, and industry associations to develop and enforce safety best standards across different sectors.

The Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHAssociation) Nigeria Region has announced the appointment of Dr. Aliyu Mohammed Ibrahim; the new Country Regional Administrator (CRA) is to spearhead its administrative efforts in promoting Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) awareness and advocacy in Nigeria; to ensure effective safety best practices across various organisations and industries in the region.

Dr Aliyu Mohammed Ibrahim from the FCT Chapter of the Association is a seasoned safety professional with extensive experience in the field of Health, Safety, Environment. He holds solid background in occupational safety and health, he is well-equipped to lead OSHAssociation’s initiatives in Nigeria and drive the organisation’s mission of ensuring that safety is integrated in every sector and organisation in the Nigeria region.

He is a safety specialist with over 16 years of cumulative experience with various skills and knowledge within his profession; he has demonstrated expertise in multiple areas, including Quality Environmental Management System (QEMS) LEAD Auditor, Certified Health and Safety Trainer, QHSE Policy Review Specialist, Researcher, Environmental Sustainability Auditor, Coaching and Mentoring Expert, Fire Safety Risk Assessment Specialist, a renowned leader in the health and safety sector.

As the Country’s Regional Administrator, he will oversee the implementation of the various existing safety programmes and activities from the previous administration, foster collaboration with industry stakeholders, and advocate for the adoption of safety best practices in emerging industries in line with the current government. His primary focus is to encourage OSHAssociation members to actively engage in safety promotion activities and raise awareness about the importance of creating a secure working environment to ensure the safety of lives and properties.

In his new role, he will work closely with OSHAssociation’s leadership team and its members to develop targeted strategies that address specific safety challenges faced by different industries in Nigeria. By leveraging his expertise, he aims to enhance the organisation’s impact in reducing workplace accidents, injuries, and occupational diseases and prevent the loss of lives (death) and properties in the region.

Speaking about his appointment, Dr Aliyu Mohammed Ibrahim expressed his enthusiasm and commitment to promoting safety awareness in Nigeria, stating, “Safety is a collective responsibility”, and it is crucial for every member of the organisation to actively participate in creating a culture of safety in their respective workplaces and environment. He went further to appoint the oldest staff of the Association as his Chief of Staff in the person of Mr. Harrison Ehimikhuai, to assist his administration to achieve its purpose in the region.  Together, “we can make a significant difference and improve the well-being of Nigerian workers across the country.” the new Country Regional Administration said.

Dr. Emmanuel Uwalaka aka The Safety Minister assured the great Members of the Association that the appointment of the new Country Regional Administrator is long overdue and the hour has come for members to experience a new administration that will lead our great Association to the expected height in Nigeria. Speaking during the November 2023 General Meeting Edition, Dr Aliyu and his team is another eagle with double power to ensure safety knowledge gets to every Nigerian and save more lives through the educational preventive strategies of the Association. OSHAssociation Visits Federal Ministry of Finance: Urged OSH Desk Officers to Remain Committed

In a significant move towards promoting occupational safety and health (OSH) standards in Nigeria, the Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHAssociation) paid a visit to the Federal Ministry of Finance. The purpose of the visit was to encourage the newly appointed OSH Desk Officers in their important role and to enlighten them about the activities of the OSHAssociation and ways to support their daily functions.

The meeting was facilitated by Mr. Harrison Ehimikhuai, technical team member of the Association, he further gave a detailed explanation of the Association, stating its mission, vision, and global focus, to the newly appointed OSH Desk Officers and the willingness of the Association to support the Ministry.

The OSH Desk officers were very pleased and appreciative of the enlightenment and promised to work effortlessly to ensure safety is inculcated and practised within the Ministry. They further requested for effective partnership with the Association towards achieving international best practices.

The Association also commends the Federal Ministry of Finance for appointing the OSH Desk Officers, as it signifies a positive step towards integrating occupational safety and health considerations into the Ministry’s operations. The presence of a dedicated officer demonstrates the government’s recognition of the importance of OSH and its commitment to ensuring a safe and healthy workplace for all employees.

OSHAssociation Conducts Safety Training and Certification for Staff of APDC; Charged them on Professionalism

In a bid to enhance workplace safety and promote a culture of health and environmental consciousness, the Abuja Property Development Company (APDC) recently collaborated with the Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHAssociation) to conduct professional international training and certification programme for its staff.

The OSHAssociation, a renowned global organisation dedicated to promoting occupational safety, health management, and environmental sustainability, conducted a comprehensive 2-day training programme tailored to equip the APDC’s employees with the necessary skills and knowledge to identify and mitigate workplace hazards, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and foster a safe and healthy working environment.

The training sessions covered a wide range of topics related to health, safety, and environment (HSE), including risk assessment and management, emergency response planning, ergonomics, fire safety, environmental sustainability and occupational health. The participants gained valuable insights into international best practices, enabling them to implement effective safety measures and establish a culture of safety within the organisation.

There were theoretical presentations, hands-on exercises, case studies, group discussions, and simulations, allowing participants to apply their learning to real-world scenarios, thereby facilitating effective knowledge transfer and skill development. This experiential learning approach ensured that APDC’s staff effectively implemented the acquired knowledge in their day-to-day operations.
